Man Faces 11 Felony Counts For Stealing Elderly Man’s Credit Card
Eleven felony counts have been filed against a Hammond man who admitted to police he used a 91-year-old hospital patient’s credit card without his permission.
Hugo E. Gil, 39, of the 500 block of Highland Street, was working as a nursing assistant at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital when the man’s credit card was stolen from his wallet, which was inside his pants pocket. The man was hospitalized from Jan. 6 through 9.
Charges totaling $1,378 were made on the man’s card at Meijer, Home Depot, GameStop, Auto Zone, Petco, Luke Oil, Exxon Mobil, Strack and Van Til and CVS. The unauthorized purchases were made on Jan. 7 and 8, court records state.

Harvey looking for help with homicides
The beleaguered city of Harvey has asked the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force for help solving dozens of its unsolved homicide cases, the SouthtownStar has learned.
Officials at the Cook County sheriff’s office and the Illinois State Police are considering a move to take over the approximately 15 to 20 open murder cases in Harvey, a city with a well-documented history of police ineptitude and corruption, while the task force reviews its membership application.
Woman found murdered in Roseland
unknown female found dead late Saturday night in the basement of a residential building at 437 W. 103rd Street in the Roseland community.
According to the Cook County Medical examiner’s office, the victim was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m. of a gunshot wound to the face.
Police responded to a 911 call at 8:15 p.m. that led them to the scene, Officer Robert Perez said. The victim appeared to be in her 20s and had no identification on her, he said.
2 Men Wounded In Humboldt Park Shooting
Two men were shot and seriously wounded Monday in a drive-by incident in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The shooting happened in the 800 block of North Richmond Street at 1:10 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The two men, both 23, were standing on the sidewalk when someone in a light-colored SUV driving by shot at them, police said.
Florida fugitive is arrested in Chicago
Clues led federal authorities more than 1,000 miles from the scene of a deadly auto crash in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., to a South Loop hotel, where they arrested the man suspected in the hit-and-run.
Adam Shepard, 30, of Jacksonville, who appeared Sunday in Cook County Bond Court, was ordered held without bail by Judge Ramon Ocasio III.
