Illinois Tea Update

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Just a reminder about this Saturday’s local 9/12 events, designed to parallel the historic event in Washington DC on the same day.

The momentum keeps building!  This past Monday 10,000 people attended the New Lenox, IL Tea Party Express event.  In fact, the Chief of Police actually stopped traffic at 10,000 attendees, while I-80 and I-30 were still backed up for miles.  Check out a great video clip of the rally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJxHLyYq3pY&NR=1.

Saturday 9/12 Event from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm:

- The “Liberty Trail” event up and down Randall Road, from North Aurora to Algonquin:  Come out with your signs and/or flags.  If you’re unable to attend the whole event, you can still participate by driving some of the road and checking out the road-side signs.  Bring flags to wave, and remember to honk your horn in support!  See www.libertytrail9-12.com for more info.
Afterwards, Meet and Mingle at Kane County Cougar Stadium from 2:00 to 6:00.
Speakers include Thomas Tabback and Dr. Steven Sauerberg
Music by Bert Cattoni

- The “March on Michigan” event downtown Chicago:  Meet at Millennium Park (Michigan Ave and Randall Street) at 11 a.m with your sign and/or flag.

- Other events in Illinois are located at the state website www.illinoistea.com

Join us while we celebrate our freedoms and let our legislators know that Americans will fight for our constitutional rights, as thousands March on Washington!

Heritage Foundation on Regulatory Czar Cass Sunstein

Friday, September 11th, 2009

The Heritage Foundation released this article today that gives a little history of OIRA and speculates as to how Sunstein will use them.

Good Czar, Bad Czar: Cass Sunstein and the Future of OIRA » The Foundry

It’s perhaps the most important job no one has ever heard of. Yesterday, Harvard professor Cass Sunstein was confirmed by the Senate as the administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, otherwise known as the nation’s “regulatory czar.” Nowadays, the mere mention of a czar tends to get eyes rolling in Washington, as President Obama has crowned more czars than did the Romanovs. Yet this czar-dom isn’t a newly minted Obama Administration post. The job goes back to President Reagan. The mission: to be the regulator’s regulator, with the power to block proposed new regulations unless their costs are justified by their benefits.

This is a clip from the Harvard Law School website. It looks like Cass is big on global warming regulations.

Sunstein confirmed as Washington regulator

The U.S. Senate voted yesterday to confirm Harvard Law School Professor Cass Sunstein ’78 as administrator, Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Office of Management and Budget.

The administrator for the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Office of Management and Budget oversees the effectiveness of federal regulations. The job is viewed as one of the most crucial in the new administration, with responsibility for tackling many new regulatory issues, including an overhaul of the financial services industry, an attempt to pass universal healthcare, and new efforts to control greenhouse gas emissions.

In April, President Barack Obama ’91 nominated Sunstein to head the office: “As one of America’s leading constitutional scholars, Cass Sunstein has distinguished himself in a range of fields, including administrative law and policy, environmental law, and behavioral economics. He is uniquely qualified to lead my Administration’s regulatory reform agenda at this crucial stage in our history. Cass is not only a valued advisor, he is a dear friend and I am proud to have him on my team,” said Obama.

A prolific scholar, Sunstein is known for his expertise in the field of law and behavioral economics, which seeks to shape law and policy around the way research shows people actually behave.

Powerline Cuts the Power on Little Green Footballs

The Fall of Charles Johnson Continues

I hope Charles stopped putting cyber junk in his posts as some have claimed…

Power Line -- Updating our blogroll

We have slightly updated our blogroll for the first time time in a long time. We have deleted Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs. We long ago stopped reading LGF Suffice it to say (suffice it for me to say, anyway) that Charles’s political inclinations and interests now diverge widely from our own.

Little Green Footballs -- So Long, Powerline

Since the people at Powerline have made a big public announcement about it, I’ll just say that I’m not the least surprised that they’ve delinked LGF. Powerline has been going in a very bad direction recently; the “all Obama-hatred, all the time” focus is bad enough, but worse are their articles supporting European extremists like Geert Wilders (who wants to deprive Muslims of the freedom of religion and ban books) and outright fascists like the Belgian Vlaams Belang party.

I have to play this one more time…

Lizard Lounge

Page rank falling, bad press around the blogs, and wonderful videos that delightfully mocks the lizard king. I see a blog war in full swing. Even Glenn Beck has joined in calling out the lizard king.

I was banned from LGF in 2006 for not falling in lock step with the LGF crowd, and their radical alliance with Israel. I see things have changed at the lizard king’s site in some respects.

Bridgeport tea party protest draws crowd, despite rain – The Connecticut Post Online

BRIDGEPORT — “We the people are speaking, listen or be fired.”

“Income redistribution is immoral.”

“Freedom yes, socialism no.”

“Obama the great deceiver.”

Those slogans and others peered out from a sea of signs dotting Baldwin Plaza Friday afternoon, carried by those eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Tea Party Express, a bus filled with conservative speakers and entertainers — including author and pundit Ann Coulter — that has been traveling the country for the past 15 days, stopping in more than 30 cities. Before heading to Bridgeport, the Express stopped in Hartford Friday morning and was headed to Tom’s River, N.J. Friday evening. The Express will make its final stop Saturday with a march on Washington, D.C.
